A Busy Winter and Spring with the Developmental Disabilities Program!

Fun activities and helpful trainings have been abundant!

Afternoon Bingo

On February 23, we hosted Bingo at our Family Support Center in Cambridge. Despite the winter storm, our community and staff bundled up, toughed out the weather and gathered for lively Bingo games, prizes, snacks, and conversations with friends. Case Manager Chelsey (pictured left below) worked the Bingo wheel and Case Manager Danielle worked the whiteboard!

New England Aquarium

On April 19, families joined our staff at the New England Aquarium to discover the wonders of sharks, many varieties of fish, turtles and of course, the penguins!

Our Annual Dance

On April 22, we hosted our annual Spring Fling at the Hibernian Hall in Watertown for the first time since 2019! DJ Nitty handled the music while youth, families, friends, and our staff danced, enjoyed lunch, won prizes for creative and enthusiastic dance moves and caught up with friends who they have missed since the last dance. It was wonderful to be able to gather together again after a four-year hiatus!

Cookie Monstah

On June 23, we will be ending the school year with games and ice cream from the Cookie Monstah at Bridges Homeward. A great way to start the summer!

Trainings

It has been a very busy few months with many trainings being offered. In January, we co-hosted a training with the Charles River West Department of Developmental Services Area Office for parents whose children will be turning 22 years old and will be eligible for DDS adult services. In February we offered a training regarding Adult Foster Care. In March, we hosted a training about Social Security as well as our annual Guardianship Training, which was presented by Attorney David Aptaker. Our most recent training focused on the Attainable Savings Plan (Achieving a Better Life Experience – ABLE). These trainings provided invaluable information and guidance to the parents and guardians of individuals with disabilities whom we proudly support.
