Celebrating Foster Parents for Foster Parent Appreciation Month
May is Foster Parent Appreciation Month, and there is a lot to appreciate about our foster parents! They have weathered the storm of self-quarantining with their families, protecting themselves and their children from COVID-19 and maintaining a sense of normalcy in their foster homes with inspiring poise.
We would love to gather with them for our annual Foster Family Appreciation Brunch, but for obvious reasons, that can’t happen this year. So we’ve tried to show our foster parents how much they mean to us in smaller but more personalized ways.
Earlier this month, we sent a free pizza dinner to 11 foster families, feeding foster parents, their bio children and 16 youth in foster care! Our foster families live all over Greater Boston, from Somerville to Brockton, so we ordered pizza from small restaurants that were local to each of our families. This was a smaller gesture, but it was definitely appreciated by our foster families, who loved the free pizza party and not having to clean up the kitchen afterward.
We also took a portrait series of our foster families from their lawns (photographed at a safe distance), and we’re excited to share that with you soon!
We’re in awe of how our foster parents have handled quarantining with their families, and all the hard work they’ve been doing to keep youth in foster care safe. If you’d like to show your support for foster families, please consider donating to CFCS today. Your gift will go directly to supporting foster parents and youth in foster care!
