A Visit to Northeastern University

In February, the residents of Putnam Place and Teens Learning Choices, as well as three teens in Intensive Foster Care, went on a campus tour of Northeastern University. They were joined by CFCS’s Executive Director Bob Gittens, who is an alumnus of Northeastern and also served as their Vice President of Public Affairs from 2003 to 2016. Bob took the group to his favorite dining hall for lunch, which our residents and youth particularly enjoyed because they got to be around college students and take advantage of all the different food choices. Thank you to CFCS Board Member Ruth Whitney for buying lunch for everyone!

The residents and youth enjoyed the tour, but they had some questions about the cost and educational requirements of attending a university like Northeastern. Bob is planning a follow-up session to talk with the youth served in our in group homes and IFC about how a place like Northeastern is a realistic option for them, even if it might seem out of reach. They are eager to go on more tours, as they are interested in college and want to see what institutions of different sizes have to offer.
