Putnam Place Resident Graduates Valedictorian of His Class, Will Attend College on Scholarship This Fall

We are pleased to announce that Teame, one of our residents at Putnam Place, is graduating high school this year as valedictorian of his class! We shared the story of Teame’s journey to America and the incredible transformation he has undergone in his time at Putnam Place in a video we produced last year:

When Teame came to America as a refugee from Eritrea in 2018, he only knew a few English phrases. But, as Kim talks about in our video, Teame’s dedication to hard work and his education is one of his defining characteristics. Teame was featured in a recent Boston Globe article about high-achieving students who speak English as a second language. “Because I had to learn English to communicate, I was very ambitious, working very hard,” he is quoted saying. Teame will attend the University of Massachusetts-Amherst this fall on a scholarship. Teame plans to become a doctor, and we have no doubt that he will one day achieve this dream. We couldn’t be prouder of the progress he has made! Congratulations, Teame, and we can’t wait to see what you do in the future!
