Danny Celebrates His 10th Birthday With His Family!

Birthdays are always big days. For Danny, a young boy in one of our foster homes, his recent birthday was a major milestone: his 10th! While a 10th birthday is an exciting day on its own, this birthday was extra special because he got to spend time with his biological family.

Danny enjoyed this big day with his siblings, cousins, nieces, and nephew. They got to celebrate at Dave and Busters, where they played arcade games and spent quality time together. Danny and his niece had so much fun on the racecars!

We are so glad Danny got to spend this time with his family. For youth in foster care, scheduled time to connect, have fun, and celebrate with their biological family is extremely important, as it helps youth strengthen and maintain lasting bonds with their biological family when appropriate. When youth are in regular contact with their families while in care, they consistently do better. For many kids, worrying about how their biological family is doing or when they’ll see them again can cause extreme stress.  But when they have opportunities to see their biological family, youth consistently do better in school, have lower anxiety, and their mental health and well-being is improved overall.

Danny’s fantastic party was organized thanks to the efforts of his social worker, Genevieve, who is always creating opportunities for Danny to see his bio family and maintain his permanency with them. Thanks to the Intensive Foster Care staff for helping create such a fun memory that will last a lifetime! Happiest of Birthdays, Danny!
