CFCS Sends Record Number of Kids in Foster Care to Sibling Connections Camp!

IFC social worker Genevieve Spears made a sign for all the youth in our program who went to camp this year.

Sibling Connections is an organization in Massachusetts that reconnects siblings separated through foster care and works to strengthen bonds between them, even when they may be living miles apart in different foster homes. Helping youth to maintain positive relationships with their families throughout their time in foster care is a big priority for our Intensive Foster Care program, and we’re so glad Sibling Connections is supporting this important type of permanency for youth in foster care across our state.

Among their many programs, Sibling Connections hosts a camp each summer where sibling groups in foster care can spend a week together at a beautiful campground in Maine. For some youth, attending this camp is one of the first or only times they get to see their siblings while in foster care. 85% of campers feel that this camp makes their relationships with their siblings stronger, and 92% say the camp helps them feel more hopeful about the future.

Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our amazing IFC staff, this year CFCS was proud to coordinate camp attendance for five groups of siblings, totaling 14 youth! We were very excited to secure this opportunity for kids in care to build their own permanency with their families, spending quality time with their siblings and creating special memories together.

We are so excited to see the positive outcomes Sibling Connections Camp has for these kids! Thank you to Sibling Connections for their partnership, and for providing such an amazing opportunity for youth in foster care.
