Celebrating Our Second Successfully Completed Virtual Parenting Journey Course

Happy graduates and instructors.

We recently celebrated the graduation of our latest Parenting Journey cohort! This Parenting Journey class met entirely online, primarily over Zoom, for 12 weeks. The 5 participants did a great job bearing with the challenges that come with online learning and we are very proud of them for sticking with it and successfully graduating!

Despite the physical distance, this cohort actively engaged in our sessions, and often mentioned how they looked forward to every Tuesday evening when they met for class. Many of the participants shared how useful the positive parenting techniques they learned were, recounting how they used those techniques each week.

While each parent in the course clearly strengthened their ability to be the best parents they can be, one mother’s story stood out. At the first Parenting Journey session, “Caroline” shared she was feeling overwhelmed. She didn’t think Parenting Journey would help her, but she was willing to try it.

Throughout the class, Caroline began to open up to the group, encourage other parents, and ask for advice. Every session, she wrote down the parenting techniques she learned and tried them out during the week. Caroline eventually was able to share with the group how she learned to yell from her own mother and that she wanted to work on breaking that habit with her son.

At the end of the series, Caroline reported she was doing better with talking to her son, instead of yelling at him, and that the parenting techniques she learned have been very helpful. She also told the group that this was the first time she made it past the first two weeks of a parenting series! Caroline said that she felt supported, encouraged, and motivated to be the best parent she can be. Our social workers and her fellow Parenting Journey graduates were moved when Caroline shared a poem she wrote for the group at the virtual graduation! With Caroline’s permission, we are proud to share her poem here.

Congratulations to our amazing Parenting Journey students! We are honored to partner with The Children’s Trust to provide Parenting Journey courses to parents in the Greater Boston area. If you’re interested in joining a Parenting Journey class in the future, please fill out this form.
