Celebrating Ava’s Adoption
We’re excited to announce the adoption of 2-year-old Ava by Kate Campbell and Matt Lee! Kate and Matt, along with their two biological daughters Sadie and Maisie, first met Ava when she was placed in their foster home at just 5 days old. Kate, Matt and their two daughters have provided a welcoming foster home to youth in foster care for 11 years, but Ava is the first youth they’ve cared for that they won’t ever have to say goodbye to.
Ava was “amazing from the start,” as Kate says. As they watched her grow from a 6-pound newborn to a toddler, the Campbells fell in love with Ava’s sparkle. With her enthusiasm for giving hugs, and her love of family rituals like always saying goodnight to Sadie and Maisie before bedtime, Ava was a charming child who felt at ease in the family.
When asked what she was looking forward to about raising Ava, Kate said, “The opportunities for Sadie and Maisie to share their stories and experiences with her. I am excited to see what she falls in love with and becomes passionate about. Will it be books, painting, scooters, gymnastics? Waiting and watching her development unfold is the most exciting for us.”
Kate and Matt have been working hard to keep Ava connected to her biological family, including her two older sisters. Ava’s sisters are currently in foster care and have moved around a bit, but Kate is determined to keep Ava in touch with her sisters no matter what. Kate and Ava also Facetime regularly with Ava’s grandmother, who is always thrilled to see her granddaughter. “Honoring her biological family and keeping those relationships when they make sense is a commitment we have made to Ava,” Kate says.
Congratulations to Ava and her family! We’re so glad Ava will grow up with a bounty of love and support, from both her adopted and biological families.
