CFCS Receives Major Grant from the Clipper Ship Foundation for Permanency

We are pleased to announce that for the second year in a row we have received a $73,500 grant from the Clipper Ship Foundation to support our efforts in fostering permanency for our residents at Teens Learning Choices (TLC). This grant will support a long-term project we’re working on to serve up to 20 young women, all of whom are in state custody after suffering significant abuse and neglect at the hands of former caregivers.

We envision a world where every child has a caring adult, a loving family and a supportive community, but this is very often not the case for youth in foster care. To reach that desirable end, we seek to ensure that each youth leaving the foster care system has not only learned essential life skills one needs to function as an adult, but also has at least one nurturing, healthy adult relationship they can turn to for help and support.

Funds from the Clipper Ship Foundation will provide invaluable support in our work with the young women living at TLC, as well as those living in local apartments as part of our Independent Living Program. Along with our residential and independent living services, we provide life skills training and help young women who are aging out of foster care build lifelong relationships they can lean on when they leave our care. Clipper Ship’s generous grant will allow us to provide a full second year of Silver Lining Mentoring sessions to our residents, which will provide vital mentoring relationships and opportunities to learn new skills to these young women.
