CFCS Perspectives: Lauren Sohn, Family Services Intern
We’re proud to be an organization of many different perspectives and experiences. Today, we’re featuring the perspective of Lauren Sohn, who was an invaluable intern in our Family Services Department over the past year. We can’t wait to see what Lauren will achieve next!
My name is Lauren, and I have been interning at CFCS this past academic year as part of the Master’s in Social Work Program at Boston College. Sadly, my internship is coming to an end as I will be graduating in May. I have been interning in the Family Services Program, collaborating with the Adoption and Intensive Foster Care teams. After graduating I am hoping to continue working in the field of adoption, or work in a school setting with youth and families.
I am so grateful that the structure of CFCS’s Family Services Program has allowed me to observe both the Adoption and IFC programs in action, and work with pre-adoptive and foster families as well as with the children who we are helping to place. I have loved working alongside my supervisor Sarah, Susan in the Adoption Program, Jillian in IFC, and all of our team members, who I have learned so much from. The staff at CFCS as well as the clients I was able to build relationships with were so welcoming and open to assisting me in navigating through a field that was brand new to me. Being able to follow along with families through the process, from MAPP training to completing home studies to matching and placement, has been an amazing experience that I will take with me. Additionally, hearing all the incredible work that other programs within CFCS are doing at staff meetings and trainings and participating in events and celebrations like the Foster Parent Appreciation party and MARE adoption event was very inspiring. I am sad to be leaving CFCS but have gained so much knowledge and experiences that I will take with me wherever my journey takes me next!
