Announcing the New Members of our Board of Directors!

We are proud to announce the three new members of our Board of Directors: Joe Giso, Beth Simon and Susan Spurlock! Joe, Beth and Susan bring to the board fresh perspectives, new ideas and a deep enthusiasm for our work. We’re honored to have them be on our board, and we’d like to introduce you to them today!

Joe is a partner at the firm of Johnson O’Connor Feron & Carucci, LLP. He provides tax consulting services that are dedicated to improving the accountability and efficiency of tax-exempt organizations. Joe has more than 30 years of experience working with non-profit organizations in the human services, healthcare, education, and cultural sectors. He immigrated to the United States as a child with his family from a small village in southern Italy on the Adriatic Sea. He has lived in Woburn for over 30 years. Today, he lives with his wife, Ann, and his two children, Michael and Allyson.

Beth is a Cambridge resident and business owner of a solo law practice dedicated to assisting families of children with disabilities across the Commonwealth. Children have been the focus of Beth’s thirty-year legal career, including many years representing children from low-income, minority or grant-specified immigrant communities. Beth has worked as a lawyer on behalf of children in government (public defender), non-profit (legal services and advocacy organizations) and private practice positions in California, New York and Massachusetts. She has also worked directly with students, in a non-legal position, as a Cambridge Public School teaching aide.

Susan is the Director of the Public Policy and Practice Hub at Suffolk University. Before Suffolk, she served as the Director of the Massachusetts Child Welfare Institute, the training, professional development, and professional education center at the Department of Children and Families. There, among her accomplishments, she expanded training for social work staff and created a nationally recognized fellowship partnership program among DCF and public and private schools of social work. Susan is the recipient of numerous awards, including the 2015 National Association of Social Worker's Public Citizen of the Year. Currently, she is a Senior Fellow at the Suffolk University Moakley Center for Public Management.
